Bastar Dusshera Tour – Completely Full of Surprises

The festival of Dusshera is widely celebrated all over India , but if you want a very special experience we recommend to visit Chhattisgarh , A state full of surprises. The festival is 75 days long and has been celebrated in Chhattisgarh since the early 15th century . Since then it has become a grand event where all the Gond tribes of Chhattishgarh participate with joy and happiness. The royal family of Bastar arranges to worship arms and ammunition of the goddess Danteshwari.

On one of the important days of this festival is when the Maharaja of Bastar welcomes the Goddess Danteshwari , who comes to the city in a Doli (Palanquin). On the last day the Maharaja organises a Darbar where different tribal chiefs can say about the problems they face in their respective lands and villages.

Day 1 : Arrival at Vishakapatnam

Our representative meets you at the Airport. On arrival you are transferred to hotel. Lunch and dinner will be served inside the hotel. Overnight in hotel.

Day 2 : VISHAKAPATNAM – JEYPORE

Today we will drive to Jeypore, one of the southern districts of Odisha. In the afternoon we shall visit a pottery makers village to understand the concepts of Organic Pottery Making.

Day 3 : JEYPORE – ONKUDELLI – JEYPORE

Today we will make an excursion to Onkudelli weekly market of the Bondas and Gaddaba tribes. After visiting this market we will have a nice picnic lunch by the falls. In the afternoon our guide will organise a soft trek or walk in the traditional villages to see rural life in southern odisha.

Day 4 : JEYPORE – KUNDULI – JEYPORE

Today we are going to visit one of the largest weekly market of Southern Odisha at Kunduli which commences only on Fridays . We will meet the Parojas here who are agriculturists. Later in the afternoon we shall visit the villages of the Bada Parojas , kumbhars and the Ranas. Overnight at Jeypore.

Day 5 : JEYPORE – KOTPAD – JAGDALPUR

Today we will drive to Jagdalpur , the center of attraction for the Dusshera festival in Bastar. On the way we will stop by at Kotpad Textile village to understand the technique of Double Ikat. Evening will be spent to see the Dusshera festival Preparations. Overnight at hotel in Jagdalpur.

Day 6 : Chitrakoot Falls – Jagdalpur Sightseeing

After Breakfast we will drive to Chitrakoot , one of the most beautiful waterfalls in India. It is also called as the Niagara Falls of India . In the afternoon we will visit the houses of the Bison Horn Maria Gonds . A traditional Bison horn dance can also be arranged on request of the villagers.

Day 7 : Tokapal Weekly Market

Today we shall visit one of the most interesting weekly markets of Bastar region which commences on Mondays only at Tokapal. A form of betting takes place on roosters . The last rooster standing determines the winner . Later we will come back to the town to enjoy the festival celebrations. Overnight at Jagdalpur.

Day 8 : HALF DAY FESTIVAL – DRIVE TO KANKER

We shall enjoy the final day of the festival and head to Kanker . On the way we will stop by at Kondagaon famous for its metal art and crafts. Overnight at Kanker.

Day 9 : KANKER – RAIPUR

Today we will drive to Raipur , we will stop by at the villages of the Muria Gonds. A traditional dance can be arranged as per request. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 10 : DEPARTURE

After breakfast, proceed to airport for final departure.
