Day 1: Arrival at Bhubaneswar

Arrive at Bhubaneswar . Meet and assistance at Airport / Railway station. We then transfer you to the hotel for lunch. After a quick lunch we shall take you the State Tribal Museum ( closed on Mondays ) . Here our guide will brief you about your tour and explain the various tribes that you will come across during the tour. The Museum consists of a collection of a various objects used by the different kind of tribes found all over Odisha. You can also see the various housing patterns. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 2: 11 : Drive to Pushangia

Today we will drive approximately 300 kms to the district of Phulbani. This is the territory of the Kondhs , one of the largest tribal groups in Odisha. We will stay the night at Pushangia at our eco cottages , a responsible tourism initiative run by the Maliah Kondhs also termed as the Tattoo faced Kondhs known for their whisker like tattoos on the face. We will do a soft hike to the beautiful villages known for the great landscapes and hospitable people. We will come across various pillars which were previously used for Human sacrifice , it has been abolished now . However they still sacrifice small animals like a chicken or pig to please the mother goddess. Return back to camp site. Overnight at Pushangia Eco cottages.

Day 3: Pushangia – Rayagada

After breakfast we will walk to see the morning life of the Kondhs , how they spend time in the fields . We will get to understand the concepts of Organic Farming in these areas. Later we shall drive to Rayagada. The evening will be spent to explore the busy baazar of Rayagada.

Day 4: Chatikona Weekly Market – Jeypore

Today we will drive to colourful weekly market at Chatikona . This market is frequently visited by the Dongoriya and Desia Kondhs who reside on the Niyamgiri Hills. On every Thursday they walk about 15kms to sell local products at this market. And with the money they get , they buy provisions for the week. The Dongoriyas are horticulturists by profession and grow various fruits and vegetables on the hill top. Later we shall drive to Jeypore and on the way stop by at Villages of The Kuvi Kondhs and Mali tribes who are agriculturists. Overnight at Jeypore.

Day 5: Jeypore – Onkudelli – Jeypore

After breakfast we will drive 75kms to Onkudelli , one of the most colourful weekly markets of the Bondas and Gadabbas. The Bondas one of the most fascinating and beautiful tribes of Southern Odisha , their population is around 10000 now . Throughout the years they have carefully preserved their culture and traditions . The Bonda women are more hardworking than the men , they collect fruits and local alcohol and sell it at this market. Later we will have a picnic lunch near a beautiful waterfall. Later will shall visit Limcaguda and understand the techniques of organic pottery making . Return back to Jeypore.

Day 6: Jeypore – Kunduli Market – Vishakapatnam

Today we shall drive 60 kms to Kunduli weekly market near the town of Similiguda. The market is considered to be one of the largest weekly markets and is frequently visited by the Paroja Tribes. The Parojas are considered to have the highest population amongst the tribes. They can be known for their clan symbols. They are further classified in Sana Parojas and Bada Parojas. We will visit this grand market where you will come across Parojas selling fruits , vegetable and cattle. Later we shall drive to Vishakapatnam. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 7: Tour ends

After breakfast proceed to airport to catch flight to Delhi / Kolkata / Mumbai

Things you should know about this tour

  • Make sure that you carry your passport, Visa and Photo ID cards on the tour.
  • Photography is permitted in tribal areas , however we recommend that you take permission of the people before you start clicking pictures.
  • Make sure to wear clothes as per the climate so that you will protect yourself from the weather changes. The clothes should be in darker colours so that it doesn’t attract the animals.
  • Try to learn basics of the tribal language that includes greetings and thank you so that you can interact well with them.
